Torres/Iniesta Injury Scares

Spain have a Euro 2008 injury worry over Fernando Torres after the star striker suffered an ankle strain that kept him out of training on Monday evening.

However, team doctor Jorge Candel claims the knock, to his right ankle, will not keep him out of Spain's final warm-up game against the USA on Wednesday.

The Liverpool man is crucial to his country's hopes, having cemented his place as coach Luis Aragones's first-choice goalscorer and found the net over 30 times in his first season in English football.

However, midfielder Andres Iniesta will definitely miss the game after falling victim to a bout of gastroenteritis.

The Barcelona man did not travel with the rest of the squad to Santander but is expected to make a quick recovery in time for Spain's opening Group D game against Russia on June 10th.

Aragones Targets Defensive Solution?

It took a last gasp winner from Joan Capdevila to give Spain a 2-1 win against Peru in the first of two Euro 2008 warm up matches, and coach Luis Aragones has indicated that defensive improvements are needed before the start of the tournament.

Aragones said, "The goal (Peru) scored against us could prove very costly at the Euro. In major championships, you need to keep your goal at zero and we'll look to do that from now."
